Your wedding day is one day that you can go over the top and you can get away with it, so don't feel like you have to follow any set of rules. I think back to my wedding now, and I would have loved to do a French Marie Antoinette look with large hair paired with a colored embroidered gown. Being a bridal consultant for many years, I rarely came across a bride with enough courage to go for something unique and different, ........rather most brides went after safe "bridal looks", I myself included. Simply by adding some color, or combining something uniquely different is one way of standing out. The best advice I can pass on to a bride after witnessing so many brides make their decisions is to shop alone at first. So many brides make the mistake of bringing with them their whole bridal party, whom all have opinions of their own. I have seen it over and over again, a bride knowing her specific style only to have her friends or mother interject a seed of doubt into her personal style. (I know my girlfriends and I differ on specific design styles) After shopping alone, you will learn by experimenting with different styles what works and what does not without people swaying you in the wrong direction. Most brides are sensitive to style, because who wears formal gowns through out their lives? Most often a bridal consultant stays neutral and quiet for the most part because there are so many options that they are trying to figure out what you like and what just doesn't appeal to you. The most successful brides in my opinion are those who shop for their gowns by themselves and then bring in a close friend or their mother(s)to see their top three gowns. Ultimately they decide what they want, and get to incorporte the special moment with those that are close to them. 
Marie Antoinette was not considered to be known for her beauty, but rather for her costly fashions that kept the French people continually talking about her wild and elaborate fashions. Queen Marie Antoinette's extravagance was so costly that it depleted the French treasury, as she never wore anything twice. Her court appearances allowed her to show off her heavy ornate gowns and silk corsets and matching shoes. She was caught up in her own prestigious lifestyle that she was disconnected from the reality of the majority of the French people who were starving. She was said to have put more flour in her thick stiff curls daily and didn't think twice about the bread it could have made to feed the people of her country. It became obvious to many that her expensive glamour was enhancing only herself, and not the monarchy, when the people began protesting against unbearable taxes and shortages. You have to give one thing to Queen Marie Antoinette..........;her remarkable fashionable style. She was willing to take fashion risks, even wearing a male clothing for an equestrian portrait. Bows have been a common element in many of her portraits. How can you incorporate some of Maries french glamour? Consider having a Diamante brooch at the top of your gown, or go for 5 diamond brooches lining the center of your bodice. A bolero jacket trimmed in lace is another regal way of adding interest to your gown. Don't be afraid of adding colored ribbon or a sashe to your gown. Marie Antoinette wore many jewels in her hair, such as draped necklaces in her heavy ornate braided hair. She really was beyond fabulous, even though she got overly caught up in her fashion escapades.
