Royal Wedding: Kate’s Wedding Tiara

Millions tuned in to capture a glimpse into the lives of Royal's William and Kate's wedding day. Many people in the US and Canada started watching the news at midnight until they walked down the isle. Kate looked much like a modern Grace Kelly as she wore a lace gown designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. The lace appliqué on the gown was hand-made by the Royal School of Needlework using the Carrickmacross lace-making technique. The tiara was loaned to Kate by the Queen for the royal wedding. The tiara was first given to the Queen Mother in 1936, King George VI for his wife just three weeks before he took over the throne from his brother. The tiara was thengiven as a gift to the Princess, (who is now Queen Elizabeth) on her 18th birthday. The tiara doesn't have a monetary value but has been guessed "priceless" given the history of the tiara. Kate's diamond earrings were designed especially to complement the tiara by jeweler Robinson Pelham, and were a wedding gift to Kate from her parents. (Read More.....)

A laurel wreath crown is one of the oldest designs in history, and are often seen with an assortment of either flowers, leaves, fruits, twigs which then form a circular crown. Julius Caesar was one of the first gvt officials to print his own bust on a Roman minted coin which he is featured wearing a diadem. He wasn't the first to wear a leaf crown on his head. Victoria and David Beckham are always in the spotlight for their unique and orignial style. At their July 1999 they asked all guests to dress in black and white at the reception while they were decked out in purple. While the wedding ceremony was private, witnessed by 29 family and friends, their reception included 230 guests. The wedding was held at the 560-acre Gothic Luttrellstown Castle in Dublin, Ireland. Scarlett Johansson's showed up at the 2005 Oscars in a black gown designed by Roland Mouret. She said she could barely breathe, but the point was, she said, "As long as you can breathe and get through the evening, you should be fine." The show stopper was the extravagant Fred Leighton diamond tiara. Johansson said she wanted to channel "a modern version of Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's."
