Princess Mary's turquoise tiara is among the most beautiful of wedding jewels. In 1893 the Duke and Duchess of Teck had given the three 1850 turquoise brooches, a tiara, a necklace and earrings to their daughter, as a wedding present. The Royal Magazine illustrates beautifully how the original tiara looked before it was downsized. Queen Mary found the composition too high, and it was lowered by E. Wolff & Co. in August 1912. Turquoise had continued to be worn by royalty and gained popularity in the mid-1800’s in the Victorian Age.
